German Magazine Bans Models in Favor for “Real” Women

Interesting article… but even MORE interesting comments.
It is a fascinating and empowering idea: tossing out the age-old ideal of stick thin women being the most desirable version of the opposite sex. Breaking down the pedestal and appreciating women for who they REALLY are. Beauty on the inside.
But there are other implications at play here:
- Even YOU are model material… are we merely reselling the same ideal in a new package to support womens’ low self esteems?
- Models aren’t “real” women?… ouch. Read some of the comments. It’s true that some models don’t eat and abuse themselves in order to acheive this “ideal” body type, but SOME women naturally have bodies of this build. What about them?
- Advocating mediocrity… “rarefied beauty” was a phrase used in this anti-obesity flavored post (pun intended, I couldn’t help myself). But I can’t support this. Just because something is common it doesn’t mean that it isn’t beautiful. I feel pity for this writer if they go through life only living for rare moments as they are of greater value to her.
Check it out… what do you think?
